Photos of my Favorite Look out point on the Kancamagus scenic highway N.H.

Any one that has seen one of my fall foliage photo blogs will recognize the strange name of this scenic route. The Kancamagus is a National - Federal scenic highway connecting Lincoln - to - North Conway New Hampshire. The views are spectacular, but that is not my favorite part of this White Mountain National Forest preserve. The route is 35 miles long from one end to the other and for that distance you see no: Wires, poles transformers, homes, gas stations hotels ...or for that matter no man made structures at all. There are however an abundance of places to pull over hike , swim , and take beautiful pictures. Here are a few Fall Vs. Winter shot taken less than three months apart that will show the beauty of the season in New Hampshire.

I fell in love with this heart shape tree, not need for a scavenger hunt...this is at the trail head for the Hancock notch trail (at the Hair pin turn).  The shot Below...same spot - ten weeks and3 feet of snow later.

This spot is six miles from my office and about 5 miles from Loon Mountain Ski Area...I had lunch here today.

Another Cool Spot along the "Kanc" is the Lincoln Woods Ranger station, many of the various hiking trails including the Appalachian trail can be reached from the camp ground. In the winter most of the folks are here to cross country ski. The old train tracks that once carried timber to the lumber and paper mills were dismantled years ago, but they left long relatively flat paths that run parallel to the river. We have even done this trail by the full moon (you'll need a national park sticker to park for any length of time though).

The East Branch of the Pemigewasset river runs along the "Kanc" and down stream from here it's pumped up the mountain to make snow at Loon Ski Resort.

This Foliage Picture was taken October 6th 2010...and the one above at the same spot 12/30/10.

                                                          WMNF...

The White mountain National Forest is a great place to get outdoors no matter the season or the reason.

Snow Shoe in the White Mountains after the storm.

Enough of the plowing and shoveling...it's time for a walk in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Ready to get some fresh air and take a little snow shoe in the woods. White Mountain Ski Resort snow totals : Cannon Mountain in the Franconia Notch State park got 31 inches, Bretton Woods at the base of Mount Washington ( the highest peak in the north - east at 6,300 feet) got 34 inches and depending on which reports you read Loon Mountain (where my real estate office is) Got 27 inches. My snow shoe six miles south of Loon proved to be all of two feet. A really good work-out in snow shoes.

Here are some of the highlights of my hike, and the pictures from my walk in the woods after the storm.

The wind along the Pemigewasset river was absolutely howling...it made the 14 degree outside temperature feel like 20 below with gusts of 30 miles per hour. Time to head away from the open water.

Two points of interest along the way...this rusted old shell of a car appears to be close to a hundred years old, and Mile marker "P-17" is 17 miles from Plymouth. This is where I turn around and head on home (about a 3 mile round trip) a good work out in two new feet of snow.

The White Mountains Are Really White today...even with a wind chill factor of 20 below I had to get outside.

Almost Home after a nice walk in the woods. To see all area properties, click on the MLS button Below and search by town price or style of property anywhere in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

NOREASTER - white out in the Mountains of NH

I had an appointment to show properties today, the roads were bad enough to drive the plow truck to work. I really thought about turning around and heading home...you can't see pavement at all, and you need to leave some distance to the cars in-front of you today.

The car in front is about 50 feet away...more than a hundred and you can't see them at all.

The showing was a big success and I'm glad I gassed up the plow it looks like it's in for some use before this storm is through. Sixteen Inches and 6 - 8 more are predicted this will be a two footer - plus wind drifts.

Happy to be home...in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, wood-stove going and no loss of power (knock on wood - yet).  Looking for a property near Loon or waterville valley ski resorts open the MLS icon on the bottom of this post and search all available properties in the White Mountains.

I can feel the storm brewing in the White mountains, the day has darkened

You know when you feel it in your bones. The day started bright and calm winds...it has darkened and the breeze has an edge to it now. A view from the Boom Run Trail on Loon mountain in Lincoln New Hampshire...the blue sky's and lack of wind has been replaced with this ominous scene.

It has gotten progressively darker from the east...the gulf of Maine is less than a hundred miles away and I'm told it is already snowing there. We are expecting a Foot of the white stuff and the folks at the Loon mountain ski area in Lincoln New Hampshire are grinning ear to ear. Enjoy your school vacation children around New England - I do see some shoveling in your near future. No school to get you out of your chores when it snows on a vacation week.

This will be the last view of Mountain Washington for a few days, the next time we see you the valleys will all be white too. I have plans to snow shoe on Tuesday before I head in to the real Estate Office. I might have to walk to work we'll have to see if the weatherman got this one right. Unlike Weathermen if we were wrong half the time we'd be looking for work...so I hope we get at least a foot.

Snow Shoeing in Franconia Notch - a White mountain Winter thrill

On the Morning of Christmas Eve...before heading to work I had time for a quick snow shoe in the Franconia Notch State Park. The Snowmobile trails were open and the path to Mount Pemigewasset looked well traveled.

The Parking lot at the Flume was empty before 8am on Christmas eve Morning, so off I went camera in hand to share one last post before family and friends descend on our home.

Here are a few of this mornings favorite pictures:

That is the Flume state park building below the mountain peaks, they do clear part of the parking area so you can start your hike to various destinations from this site (Lincoln NH Rte 3 north of Loon Ski Resort).

Mount Liberty Left- Mount Flume right.

Mount Pemigewasset - also known as Indian Head (can you make out the face and Headress).

Mount Liberty left- Mount Flume Right...from a different angle.

On my way to work looking back at the notch...a few last minute things to do at the Real Estate office then back home for the rest of the day...and Christmas day by the fire with Family and friends

A closed sale at Loon Mtn. will create new sales activity and confirms value.

Sometimes one sale can have a greater effect on a subdivision than "Just" a single transaction. Families are still willing to buy the right location when they see the long term value of that decision. Yesterday’s closed sale dispels any concerns for this slope side subdivision at Loon Mountain in Lincoln NH.

Pending site with a ski trail on the property closed for $415,000.

Site 38 has been pending for a month and is in the books now.

Custom Adirondack Home across the street called “Moose Run” was completed last year and also offers ski to your door access from the Loon mountain slopes. Designed & Built by our in-house contractor Cargill Construction We feel this exclusive recreational neighborhood has held its value very well and compared favorable with other New England resorts.

One of the other dozen homes Cargill has completed slope side at Loon is on site #62. This is a custom Post and beam,  modeled after the owners' primary home in Massachusetts…they liked so much they built one here.

Information on slope-side homes / homesites for sale visit our South Mountain web site Slope side development at Loon Mt.

South Peak at Loon, 6 bedroom Home offering 4,000 Square feet and 2 car garage $1,295,000 Resale.

Wednesday Winter weather ski Report at Loon Mountain Lincoln NH

Wednesday winter weather watch and Loon ski Conditions Update.

I consider going out on the hill as part of my Job description, and if you are here to try to convince me otherwise…FORGET IT!

I started this Wednesday Morning on the Gondola…From up high,

I could see the groomer’s busy working in the Terrain Park…huge jumps, walls and half-pipes where all coming together for the School Holiday breaks.

Over to South Mountain…via the Tote road lift, first Boom Run and then Cruiser. The snow makers were covering the Rip Saw trail (one of the Few Double black Diamonds in the east)…It looks like that will be open for the Holidays.

Back Over to North Peak, a run down Walking Boss and a trip up the quad to see more guns going on upper Flume. I counted a 21 gun salute on the way up the lift, this massive effort will net another expert slope open by the weekend.

Two More Runs on the Kanc – Quad…Beside the Governors Lodge and my ski day was at its end. A Mid-week prior to Christmas allowed me to share the snow conditions at Loon mountain and make 10 runs in two hours (I found myself on every lift alone…but you wouldn’t be after school vacation starts). The conditions are very good…and signs of grooming and snow guns show it will be noticeably better in a few days.

Skiing should be very good for the rest of the season 480 New tower guns have done the trick...if Nature is going to be a Mother, we'll make our Own. Have a safe and happy Holiday.

Black out and a White out...nature puts on a show.

A Lunar Eclipse happened to Coincide with the Winter Solstice (on the same night)...the last time this occurred was over 400 years ago.

The White Out in Franconia Notch...on the other hand - Happens all the time. Every time it snows in the Notch it can be a major snow storm.

Some of Natures Gifts to New Hampshire...Ready to Ski The North East...These are the Slopes at Cannon Mountain ski area.
