Loon Mountain 2013-14 upgrades...more summer fun and winter Snow

Loon Mountain Snowmaking To Pump Up By 40 Percent

This is one of the old guns...since replaced with tower guns...much better snow and better to ski through - too.!!

A total of $1.3 million will go a long way at New Hampshire’s Loon Mountain between now and the start of the 2013-2014 season. Loon management will infuse the cash into the existing snowmaking system that will jack up the capacity by 40 percent.

"Thanks to our ownership and management groups (CNL Lifestyle Properties and Boyne Resorts, respectively), Loon has a multi-year capital plan specifying projects that will allow us to remain competitive and provide the quality snow and experience our guests expect,” President and General Manager Rick Kelley told SnoCountry.com.

“This summer’s projects are part of a long-range strategy to transform Loon’s snowmaking. Our investments to date have already proven themselves, especially during the 2011-12 winter, one of the most challenging seasons in recent years. We are committed to having one of the most powerful snowmaking systems in New England and this summer’s upgrades will again significantly increase our capacity,” he said.

The initiative starts with two new snowmaking pumps. This will allow more water to reach more snow guns at any given time.

The new hydrants, along with 15 additional energy-efficient tower (overhead) guns, will be of particular help in the early season when snowmaking windows can be shorter.

Loon Mountain has reacted to the top demand from skiers and riders in snow country in the past four years: the best possible snowmaking and grooming for their money.

Management has invested over $3 million in that time, and according to Loon’s Greg Kwasnik, “is proud of its ability to produce snow at marginal temperatures.”

The kid’s terrain park also will benefit from this capital project. The Burton Lil’ Stash, a humorous oxymoron given its Paul Bunyan-themed venue, will step up its offerings to youngsters by doubling in size. There will be new berms, rollers, jumps and fun animal carvings.

The park is in a quiet glade to the east of the Little Sister chairlift, and allows kids the opportunity to develop park and freeriding skills in a pressure-free environment.

Visitors to Loon this summer and fall can immerse themselves in activities such as scenic gondola rides, the Aerial Forest Adventure Park, ziplines, Segway tours, rock wall climbing and more. Recreational option grow…making for fun all year long at the White Mountains favorite place to get your sports on!!

...Zip line over the river is such a blast.

Flying high up in the sky...

Climbing walll...

Try to make it out of the Maze...

Or take a dip in the Pemi River on a hot summer day...Welcome to Loon...stay and play no matter the season.
