My Fiftieth birthday on Oscar night February 27 2011

That's right I received my AARP card last week...and yes the time is near.

I decided to allow the Academy Awards Committee to hold their  Oscar party with it's celebration and pageantry to fall on the night of my Fiftieth ...it seemed unfair for me to ask Hollywood to postpone their annual Gala. After all they change the date every year -but my birthday was always on the 27th.

My wife will pull off one of her amazing parties and we'll celebrate the night away. Here are the rules: dress as any movie related person or character...fill out your predictions of the nights movie voting outcome, enjoy some champagne and make sure you eat something (we like to cook).

Tippi Hedren ...may make an appearance again this year. (or is it Tippi Loynd)

Yup married this one...and I'm so very lucky.

My wife had a roast for me when I turned 40...I'm glad the Oscars coincide with the 50th anniversary of my birth...I know what I'm in for. After all you don't want to scare an old guy with something too crazy.

Realtors seeing Walk-ins once in a blue Moon...The Real Full Moon story.

Tonight’s Moon is a True Blue Moon…Really!!

A Blue Moon as many of us know it…is when there are two full moons in a month. These are not true “Blue Moons”. The definition has gotten obscured over the years. Back in the 1930’s (August 21st 1937 to be exact) we had a fourth full Moon during the summer season. Seasonal Moons were given the designation of Early (in this case summer)…Mid summer and the late summer moon. So when it was observed that another Moon in a season couldn’t be called the late summer moon “again” the term Blue moon was assigned to the third full moon leaving the late full moon for the last occurrence in a season. Tonight’s Blue Moon will be the third full moon in the Fall Season. Not the Second full moon this month.

So where did the urban myth go astray…and where did the widely accepted two full moons in a month become the Blue Moon?   Seven times in 19 years there were – and still are – 13 full moons in a year. This gives 11 months with one full moon each and one with two. This second in a month, has been wrongly interpreted and called a Blue Moon.

The original Maine Farmers' Almanac rule had been all but forgotten. Now, let's come back to tonight’s full moon. Under the old Almanac rule, this would technically be a blue moon. In the autumn season of 2010, there are four full moons:

  • Sept. 23
  • Oct. 22
  • Nov. 21
  • Dec. 21

"But wait," you might say. "Dec. 21 is the first day of winter."

And you would be correct, but only if you live north of the equator in the Northern Hemisphere. South of the equator it's the first day of summer.

In 2010, the solstice comes at 6:38 p.m. EST.

But the moon turns full at 3:13 a.m. EST. That's 15 hours and 25 minutes before the solstice occurs. So the Dec. 21 full moon occurs during the waning hours of fall and qualifies as the fourth full moon of the season.

To add one further complication to the Blue Moon Theory…An extra full moon in a month…four full moons in a Season or how about this thought? After forest fires or volcanic eruptions, the moon can appear to take on a bluish or even lavender hue. Soot and ash particles, deposited high in the Earth’s Atmosphere, can sometimes make the moon appear bluish.

We have developed, marketed and sold many of the successful projects on Winnipesaukee and Squam Lakes …I lived on the lake while in College, and moved to the mountains shortly after graduation.  I began working for Alpine Lakes realty 26 years ago, and work for the same guy who hired me long ago we trust one another. We collaborate on development and marketing which has lead to many happy custom home owners and general real estate clients.

Realtor, Redneck or Renaissance-man you decide!

Realtor, Redneck or Renaissance-Man you decide.

I hate to leave a project half finished and will work into the night to complete a task.

I think the Red Sox are a class act for signing Nomar for one day so he could retire a Red Sox.

I would rather be defragging my computer than watching dancing with the star, but you can (honey).

I watched the Super bowl for the commercials this year because the Patriots weren’t playing.

I can work all day with a splinter in my finger, but couldn’t take another step with a pebble in my shoe.

I can hit a golf ball perfect when this shot doesn’t count.

I like visiting cities, but I don’t like driving in them.

I love my family, my house, my job, my car, and my sports…but would give up the last four for the first one without a second thought.

I like all sports, but don’t get car racing…drive fast turn left is what I do when I get on the highway entrance ramp everyday, what is so hard about that.

I know I want it all, but I haven’t decided where I’m going to put it?

I like having four season's; it’s great to see a change every few months without having to move.

I’m a dapper dresser, but I own multiple chain saws and a plow truck so I’m a redneck at heart. (the locals say flatlander…I like to think Renaissance-man)

I like being my own boss, I have no one to blame for my failures…and everyone to thank for my successes.

Realtor's Core Course, and pictures of the beautiful Church Landing venue.

The Morning was filled with Bonuses for me. I attended a “core” course for license renewal with my beautiful wife, and it was at the spectacular Church landing property.

Thanks to Charline Mason our certified instructor, we beat the agency issues to death once again. Seller agency, buyer agency, sub-agency, disclosed dual agency, designated agency, and Facilitator discussions took up the entire first half of the 3 hour class. While Lead paint – Discrimination, and changes in the State real estate commission’s “letter of the law” were bantered around as they are every year…for another hour and a half.

My hats off to Charline, when I taught this class 25 years ago, the audience questions

usually over took the appointed material. We got through the meat and potatoes. I will be required to take 3 more three hour electives before the year is through but I enjoy these get togethers. Many of the topics are redundant, but I could tell by some of the looks there are a lot of people that need the update every other year.

As I said this was a bonus to me: The Lakes region board has a bunch of great agents and I was able to re-connect with many that I haven’t seen in far too long. The Church landing building was another bonus for me, the Adirondack style design is featured prominently in many of the custom homes well build. This hotel conference center has incorporated much of the Lake house, campy features in to their decorating. As a parting comment if you ever get the chance to have dinner at Church Landing take advantage of the location and get a table with a view of lake Winnipesaukee.

Congratulations to my wife for becoming a Realtor, she has been a licensed Broker for many years, but the developer she works for has finally seen the value of this national network and affiliation to a great group of professionals.

I love the Adirondack Look of this place, and it was nice to knock out one of my required classes.

Take a look at some of the homes we have done with the camp look - ADIRONDACK HOMES

Motivational Monday...you can make it happen!!

Two Years on Activerain – a Motivational Monday Post.

It takes all kinds of clients and customers to create a real loynd -glover brookestate business.

I have met Kings and Kleptomaniacs…I have toured the Taj Mahal and shown trailers. I enjoy the detours and side trips of life; they are what make the journey interesting.

It takes a village to raise and idiot…and I keep stating up when they ask for volunteers. I have loynd photonever listened to this deal can’t be done…when the transaction is getting dark I find enough light to see it through.

No matter where you go…there you are, One of the great things we have in our business is we carry the tools we need with us. They are not bulky, heavy or hard to haul…they are there to call on for a simple fix or major overhaul.

Believe in your Abilities, and you can work miracles, loynd photo bridge

You can't take no as the final answer..."No" is where

you start from and overcoming objections is the solution

Your clients must know there is no distance to great to travel toward fulfilling their dream. Giving up when the going gets tough is a job left for someone collecting a salary each week…they are not expected to be brilliant.

Never be afraid to challenge yourself, the fear of a challenge can be seen and smelled from a great distance…show your strength by standing firm –yet bending gently.
