Who is packing your Parachute? Have you thanked them recently?
Captain Plumb...flew 75 mission over Vietnam in his F4 Phantom before being shot down and ejecting from his plane over south Vietnam. After being captured and held captives as a prisoner of war for six years, he made it home to the states. One night while out to dinner Captain Plumb was stopped by a stranger...You're Captain Plumb, who flew a F4 phantom from the SS Kitty hawk and was shot down over enemy lines. Stunned Plumb said how do you know about these facts and events? the stranger said " I was the guy that packed your parachute". Captain Plumb, had an epiphany that night...this unknown man saved his life. It was very likely that he would have never known that the guy that packed his Parachute, played a roll in this survival and his second chance at life. We all have someone to thank for packing our chute, and looking out for our well being when we don't even know fate has intervened.
I am so proud of my son, last night he was inducted into the national honor society as a senior. Most students apply for this recognition in their junior year and Conor would have easily been accepted then. But what makes me so proud is that convention is not important to him...and it has never been for me.
Conor has been a straight "A" student throughout his high school career, and he has never been one to take the easy classes to pump up his GPA. taking advance placement biology, calculus, English, economics, chemistry, Spanish, and honors History - statistics - algebra -and physics, while playing in the Jazz band and being the Captain of the Cross country and track teams have made him a stand out student and athlete.
Which ever college my son decides on, will be lucky to have him, Conor's dedication to scholastic excellence is like nothing I have ever been a witness to. Ask him to stay and work beyond what the class requires he revels in the challenge.
Have you packed anyone’s Chute Today.
The best we can do for our students (associates & children) is to quietly pack their chutes, and wish they never have to pull the cord. But we know they have all that they need when they take that leap of faith and step off in to the abyss. In life...we wish for a safe and soft landing for the ones we hold dear.
