A Great early Summer event not to be missed in the White mountains of NH.

Lupine Festival :Sugar Hill & Franconia New Hampshire.       June 4-20 / 2010 a White Mountain annual event.

The tradition started by a couple of local shop-keepers almost 20 years ago was devised to fill in for some quiet time between seasons. It has been a big hit ever since and the fields of Lupines are of course the main feature.

One of the past award winning photographers was kind enough to allow me to use this contest winning entry, simply titled “Lupines”. Thanks to Byron Fairbrother local artist and photographer for the use of this beautiful shot. For more information on all the event or to find a place to stay visit www.franconianotch.org  or call 603-823-8000

Artist Bluff one on my favorite hikes in the Fanconia Notch area...easy for all ages and a great view of Echo & Profile lakes and the Ski Slopes at Cannon Mountain ski area (state owned park).

Other fun activities for the festival include, an art show, historic Inn tours, guided walks, and local museums (Put the Robert Frost house on your list). Several bands are scheduled to play during the June 12 &;; 13 weekend, the concerts will coincide with the display of the “Forever Locked Moose” sculpture …a N.H. Locked Moose Antler Project. The story of the Locked Antlers is based on a local hunters find of two moose carcasses…it seams while in battle they locked horns, and where unable to unlock themselves. These widely seen majestic animals in the North Country eventually fell victim to starvation as the Locked antlers wouldn’t allow them to eat or drink. I’ve been told this taxidermy sculpture, sponsored by the New Hampshire Fish and Game is really a sight to see.

The finished product. Left to Right are, Lisa Bell, Ray Deragon, Lt. John Wimsatt and Taxidermist Mark Dufresne. While there were dozens of volunteers that made this exhibit possible, this four person team made this extraordinary endeavor a reality.
