Sunrise under cloudy skies...Ok Good Title, But Otter Rocks & Rainbows...Steve Have you completely lost your mind? I assure you I have a little bit left, but there are a few places in the National forest of New Hampshire that you just have to see to understand this post. I must be at school before 7 am, and that leaves me a little time to cruise the National Forest lands on my way to work. Take a look at some of this morning pictures and then ask yourself is he crazy...or just lucky to live on the edge of 800,000 acres of wilderness.
Sunrise under cloudy skies.
Otter Rocks...picnic area along the Kancamagus scenic highway...had my coffee here this morning.

Rainbow over Campton Dam, my daily ride after the school drop off...100 yards from the branch office.
And Now for your Foliage update...Pictures taken 10/06/09...before 8am.
Rte 112 Lincoln I would say we are at peak...If you want to get the best viewing Columbus Day Weekend will be the best its going to get this year (Lincoln New Hampshire..2 miles from the Loon Branch office).
Pemigewasset Look out point along the Kancamagus...sun just coming up, If I didn't have to work I would have stayed for the full sunrise, I'll leave that to the paying customers (national forest overlooks are free).
Lincoln-Woods Ranger Station is the first place in the national forest you can park and hike from. If you walk over the cable bridge you can get to the Appalachian trail system which has trails from the Carolina's to Maine, or you can simply enjoy the view of the river on the first 2 miles of flat terrain.
One of the look-out stops at the Hancock range...all these photos were taken no more than 5 miles from down town Lincoln...maximum enjoyment for minimum effort, I got back to town while my coffee was still hot.

Gorgeous pictures! We have a lot of leaves that turn yellow, but not too many reds.
