I had a yard sale today..but not the kind you think..

I work in a Ski Resort Market, but as a local I will not attempt to get on the hill during the Holidays. For this reason I went skiing this morning and limited my time on the slopes to 90 minutes. It was snowing hard this morning and we have received over 3 feet of the white stuff in just the past two weeks.

What does a yard sale have to do with Skiing? The is a saying that goes with a crash, If you fall so hard your stuff gets spread all over the slopes, that's a yard sale. You have skis, poles goggles, a scarf and a hat all in different locations when you finally come to a stop (That's A Yard Sale).

What does a yard sale (crashing) have to do with real estate? If you are safe and slow you will probably never suffer the humiliation of asking someone 50 feet away for a little help (can you bring me that pole). If you are tentative and cautious you will face very little risk of crashing and burning in front of your peers. And if you never venture beyond your comfort zone you'll never get hurt.

My ribbs are a bit sore right now, but I will ski as fast the next time I'm on the slopes as I was when I held my impromptu yard sale today. Reckless abandon has it's place, if you never crash you just aren't trying hard enough, Take some risks now is the time to test a new theory or marketing strategy..it couldn't hurt.

I agree....it's the no pain no gain thing....plus, real estate is a wild ride. We do it for the rush, right???

Cool yard sale!! I hope you don't have them very often. It can take atoll on your body.

Reckless abandon has it's place, if you never crash you just aren't trying hard enough. That goes with out saying.

Hi Steve-Great analogy. Happy Holidays. Hope your ribs feel better. They can be a real tender area when you hurt them as we do all have to breathe. :-)

Cecily..there can be no fear of failure in these uncertain times,,I would rather die trying than of old age.

Thomas.. There is another saying I like: "IF YOU AREN'T LIVING ON THE EDGE - YOU ARE TAKING UP WAY TOO MUCH ROOM"... so live it up  Steve

No Pain no gain. My mom used to tell me that all the time. I never believed her back then!

Now I say it to my kids.

When we skied it was No falls No B**ls.... I never fell much but I remember telling myself that when I ventured on a black diamond trail by accident.

Merry Christmas Steve.

Glad to hear you've survived your "yard sale" without serious injury.

Better that your trying than sitting on the sidelines.

One I recently coined (for a certain relative who shall remain nameless).

"You want to sit and watch the movie.  I want to be in it."

Thanks , Ann we do love it up in the White Mountains..As far as the wipe-out goes I had worse, and will fall again I'm sure but it woundn't stop me from flying down teh hill again soon.

Caren.. The yard sale takes practice and a commitment to highspeed.

I like your ski analogy. I work and play at Schweitzer Mountain in Sandpoint, Idaho. If now is not the time to buy real estate...then there never will be a time. By the way, we got over 45" of the white stuff in the past 36 hours! Pretty decent powder!

Hi Steve.

No yards sales like this on the golf courses in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.  No breathtaking snow capped mountain views either.  Stunning photo and I love your analogy.  No guts, no glory!

Thanks Ken & Terri.. This is a no guts no glory business, people on the side line will be able to say they could-a , or Should-a, but the ones that jump in will reap the benefits of concise decisions.

Angela, I ski raced in College, broke an ankle surfing in the South pacific, and dislocated a shoulder cliff diving in Mexico..my mother doesn't take my calls when I'm on an adventure..she lets me go to voice mail, Go figure??

A fitness trainer once told me "no pain, no gain".  If you never venture out, you'll also never know what the world has to hold for you.  Buyer's and seller's need to get off the fence and venture into the market.  It's not as bad as they think.  Seller's need to prepare their home for sale and be realistic, buyer's need to get preapproved and retain a buyer's agent (personal trainer) then venture into the market.  And, agent's need to let the public know they are out there, still in business and ready to help them make the right choices.

June, Good Analogy..fear is not an option either.if this was easy anyone could be good at it.
